Project Name: King Saud University Infrastructure and Supporting Projects
Product Scope: Multi-Compartments Cable Trays (Multi-Slot Trays), Grounding Wires
Project Status: Completed | Commissioning Year: 2025
Client/Owner: King Saud University
EPC Contractor/Procurement: China Railway Construction International Group Co., Ltd. (CRCC International)
Supplier: Burkaf

Project Background

King Saud University (KSU), established in 1957, is the oldest and most prestigious university in Saudi Arabia, and one of the most influential comprehensive universities in the Middle East. To accommodate expanding teaching and research needs, the university launched large-scale infrastructure and supporting projects, including new academic buildings, research centers, and related facilities.

Burkaf partnered with the EPC contractor CRCC International to provide multi-compartment cable trays and grounding wires for the electrical system construction of these new campus buildings.

Challenges

  • Large-Scale Campus Infrastructure: The project involved multiple new buildings and outdoor interconnection pathways, requiring cable routing systems that covered different functional areas, demanding high product supply volume and consistency.

  • Electrical Safety and Grounding Protection: As a densely populated educational facility, proper grounding of the electrical system was critical, requiring complete grounding continuity to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.

  • Special Requirements for Multi-Compartment Trays: Low-voltage systems (network, communication, security, etc.) in academic buildings and research centers required proper segregation from power cables. Multi-compartment trays are the ideal solution for separating power and low-voltage cables within a single tray system.

  • International EPC Management: CRCC International, as the EPC contractor, imposed strict requirements on supplier quality control, delivery capability, and on-site coordination.

Burkaf Solution

Burkaf supplied multi-compartment cable trays and grounding wires to meet the complete electrical routing and safety grounding requirements of this university infrastructure project.

How Burkaf's Advantages Were Demonstrated:

1. Rational Wiring Design with Multi-Compartment Trays
Multi-compartment trays feature internal dividing slots, allowing power cables and low-voltage signal cables (network, communication, security, etc.) to be placed in separate compartments within the same tray. This saves installation space while effectively reducing electromagnetic interference, making them ideal for the dense low-voltage cabling requirements of academic buildings and research centers.

2. Complete Grounding Protection System
Burkaf provided dedicated grounding wires and matching connectors, ensuring reliable electrical continuity between tray sections and between the tray system and the main grounding grid. This meets international standards for electrical continuity and ensures campus electrical safety.

3. Meeting High Standards for Educational Buildings
Products feature hot-dip galvanized finishing, providing good corrosion resistance suitable for the Riyadh climate. The tray system offers high structural strength, ensuring neat, safe cable routing that is easy to maintain.

4. Proven Ability to Work with International EPC Contractors
Burkaf worked closely with CRCC International throughout the project—from drawing review and sample approval to batch delivery—fully responding to the EPC's management requirements and ensuring material supply aligned with construction progress.

5. Reliable Delivery and Quality Consistency
The project was successfully completed in 2025, with Burkaf achieving batch-by-batch on-time delivery and consistent product quality, with no rework or delays caused by material issues.

Project Results

  • The King Saud University Infrastructure and Supporting Projects were successfully completed and put into operation in 2025.

  • The Burkaf multi-compartment cable tray system achieved proper segregation of power and low-voltage cables, while the grounding wire system ensured complete electrical protection, earning recognition from the EPC contractor and the university.

  • Provided safe and standardized electrical cabling support for new academic buildings and research centers on campus.

Project Value

The successful implementation of this project demonstrates Burkaf's capability in large-scale educational infrastructure. Multi-compartment cable trays met the practical need for separating power and low-voltage cables in modern educational buildings, while the grounding system ensured electrical safety in densely occupied spaces. Burkaf continues to provide professional, reliable cable support and protection solutions for various building projects.
