Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Semiconductor Plant is one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the world, playing a critical role in global memory chip and logic device production. To support ongoing capacity expansion and facility upgrades, Samsung initiated an electrical systems upgrade project across the manufacturing complex.
Burkaf was selected to supply cable trays, seismic supports, and flexible metal conduits for this project. The products are supplied through Samsung C&T, the EPC and procurement arm of Samsung Group, and must meet the stringent requirements of cleanroom environments and seismic protection standards.
Strict Cleanroom Requirements
Semiconductor fabrication facilities require extremely low particle levels. All cable management products must minimize dust generation and accumulation, with no outgassing or contamination that could affect yield rates.
Seismic Protection Standards
South Korea has strict seismic design codes for critical infrastructure. The semiconductor plant, being a high-value manufacturing asset, requires robust seismic bracing to protect electrical systems during earthquake events.
High-Density Cable Routing in Confined Spaces
Semiconductor plants feature dense cable layouts above cleanroom ceilings and below raised floors. The cable routing system must accommodate high volumes while maintaining organization and accessibility.
Flexible Connections for Vibration-Sensitive Equipment
Sensitive manufacturing equipment requires flexible conduit connections to isolate vibration and allow for minor equipment movements without stressing the cable system.
Ongoing Facility Operations
The electrical upgrade is being carried out while the plant remains operational, requiring careful material coordination and minimal disruption to manufacturing activities.
Burkaf supplied cable trays with smooth surfaces and rounded edges to minimize dust accumulation and facilitate easy cleaning. The tray design reduces particle generation, making them suitable for cleanroom-classified areas of the semiconductor facility.
A complete seismic support system was provided, including C-channels, seismic clamps, and bracing components. The system is engineered to withstand seismic forces per South Korean building codes, protecting critical electrical cabling during earthquake events and ensuring post-event functionality.
Liquid-tight flexible metal conduits were supplied for final connections to semiconductor manufacturing equipment. These conduits provide:

The electrical systems upgrade project at Samsung Pyeongtaek Semiconductor Plant began in 2025 and is currently in progress.
